PSTN is a single channel telephone line with access to a wide range of phone services such as call waiting and caller display. You can make or receive calls and send or receive faxes and emails as well as connect to the Internet with a PSTN line.

PSTN is short for Public Switched Telephone Network, which refers to the international telephone system based on copper wires, which carry analogue voice data.

ISDN is a digital phone line that allows you to send and receive voice, data, images and video conferencing over the one line. It is a digital line with 2 channels, which allows you make or take 2 simultaneous calls, and or send/receive a fax when you are on a call.

ISDN stands for Integrated Services Digital Network. This system allows data to be transmitted simultaneously across the world using end-to-end digital connectivity. Your ISDN BRA includes two 64kbits channels and enables you to make two calls simultaneously. With ISDN, voice and data are carried by bearer channels (B channels) occupying a bandwidth of 64 kb/s (bits per second). A data channel (D channel) handles signalling at 16 kb/s or 64 kb/s, depending on the service type.

ISDN simply replaces the analogue path between the customer and the exchange with a fully digital service. In the modern telephone network, analogue speech is broken down (digitised) into a series of binary digits (bits) and transmitted at a rate of 64 kbps (64,000 bits per second on channels set up through the network. It is then converted at the remote exchange back to an analogue signal which arrives at your phone. Standard installation lead time is 12-15 working days.

ISDN PRA/FRA is a high-capacity digital line with 16-30 channels, which can be used for data and voice. FRA/PRA offers up to thirty 64-k/bit channels (FRA offers sixteen) with an unlimited number of DDIs (in minimum of 100 blocks). These channels can carry voice or data on one simple connection into your premises.

ISDN Fractional Rate Access (FRA) is the ideal solution for growing companies and includes 16 individual channels that can carry voice or data. Additional channels can be added as your business grows. ISDN Primary Rate Access (PRA) is ideal for larger businesses providing 30 channels each capable of carrying voice or data.

DDI (Direct Dial In) is a block of additional numbers that can be attached to your ISDNFRA/PRA line. DDIs allow you to give your staff individual numbers so a caller can contact the person they want directly, without going through reception. They also allow you to attach individual numbers to specific pieces of equipment, such as telephones or fax machines. Each ISDN FRA/PRA comes with 100 DDIs.
